Our LD/A sessions are aimed to provide opportunities to increase physical activity and exercise but in a fun and supportive way, either through games sessions or by tailored gym support from our team. These sessions have gone from strength to strength and offer a wide range of activities for clients to get involved with; these include:

  • Cycling for all abilities
  • Multi-sport activities
  • Dodgeball
  • Football
  • Dancing
  • Walks around BwD

Supporting these sessions are less about knowledge of the activity but more about a focus on the clients and supporting them to be active in our session. An induction for each session/activity will be completed prior to joining our team.

Key Tasks

  • – To support and encourage active participation
  • – To be respectful of the clients needs and remain non-judgemental
  • – To promote the benefits of physical activity
  • – To offer any assistance/support to clients throughout the session
  • – To assist the session leader as necessary
  • – Ensure clients are safe at all times
  • – Log volunteer hours via an online computer system

  • – A keen interest in the benefits of physical activity
  • – A keen interest in supporting clients with a learning disability and autism

Training

  • – A DBS is required for all roles
  • – Introduction to Autism course (Adult Learning)
  • – Volunteer Learning Passport access (e-learning)
  • – Emergency First Aid Course
