After the success of our Active Summer Programme, we are teaming up with some of our partners to deliver another round of special one-off FREE sessions to keep you and your little ones active over the October half term!

From Monday 21st October to Friday 25th October 2024

There are a range of activity sessions taking place across Blackburn and Darwen throughout the half term week, including Witton Park, Whitehall Park and Queens Park. All sessions listed in the timetable below are FREE for all the family, delivered by re:fresh and local partners.

These special one-off sessions include a Pickleball taster session, Xplorer Trails, Scavenger Hunts and much more! Please note that majority of events will require booking. Booking link can be found below and in the session timetable.

For safety reasons, please make sure that children who are taking part in sessions are wearing appropriate clothing and shoes for physical activity.

XPLORER IS BACK!

As well as hosting our Pumpkin Xplorer Trail, the Xplorer Trails are available for everyone to complete at any time! The 45 minute, self-led trails are now in place at Witton Park and Whitehall Park. Bring the family together to find the 15 themed plaques at each park!

Key

Green – Sessions aimed at beginners or those returning to exercise after some time.
Purple – Ante and post natal sessions aimed at new mums and mums to be.
Yellow – Learning through play sessions aimed at children aged 4 and under.
Orange – Sessions aimed at people (16+) with a Learning Disability and Autism.

Pickleball Taster Session

LUV Pickleball is hosting free taster sessions for you to come and try. Pickleball is  a fast-paced paddle sport which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Easy on the body, Pickleball is a sport for young and old alike. It’s easy to pick up and is a great way to improve your fitness and make new friends. The LUV Pickleball taster sessions are run by a Level 2 qualified instructor and all equipment is provided.

Pumpkin Soup Demo

Pumpkin Xplorer Trail / Pumpkin Picking

Complete the Halloween themed Xplorer trail to receive a pumpkin of your choice from the pumpkin patch! Find 15 Halloween plaques around Witton Park on the self led trail that takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Collect your Xplorer Pack from the Active Outdoors Hub.

Halloween Themed Walk & Orienteering

Using the free and interactive Maprun app, explore Queens Park hunting for letters to make as many Halloween words as you can in 30 minutes! Using your phone’s GPS location to hit the virtual checkpoints. Simply download Maprun onto your device and head to the British Orienteering info stand by the play area when you arrive at Queens Park.

Bat Walk

Join the bat walk led by Ribble Rivers Trust and find out more about these fascinating creatures before they go into hibernation. Learn about species ID and important conservation work, before heading out into the park using the bat detectors!

Sparktacular Stroll

Join Safer Neighbourhood Police Officers in our Operation Brightsparx Quiz. Navigate your way though the woods and use the map to find our 10 questions all about Bonfire Night located around Witton Park. The team will be there to say hello and answer any questions the young people may have.
