Baiter Sehat Project

What is it?

Baiter Sehat means Better Health. Baiter Sehat is run by One Voice, a Community Interest Company (CIC)

The aim of the project, which is in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, is to deliver both community education initiatives and integrate information into existing health promotion activity in the local BME community.

Baiter Sehat is currently in Phase 3 (April 2015 – March 2016).

Phase 3 of the Baiter Sehat campaignhas focused on further community engagement about organ donation, dementia, mental health and suicide and drugs and alcohol.

Activities of Baiter Sehat 1 took place between September 2012 and July 2013.

Phase 2 saw Baiter Sehat tackle areas around Organ Donation, Domestic Violence, Health Checks, Shisha Smoking, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Suicide.

An organ donation campaign was launched in conjunction with NHS Health Education England and East Lancashire NHS Hospitals Trust. A video was produced highlighting the urgent need for organ donors in the BME community, called ‘It’s About Time.’

As part of promoting organ donation, the It’s About Time campaign video was presented to 1000 students over five assemblies at Witton Park Academy and Blackburn Central High School with a short talk following about organ donation and transplantation.

Zaheer Mahmud, the Operational Lead of One Voice, said:  “We accomplished so much in phase one and two of the Baiter Sehat campaign. This work must be reinforced and further implemented.”

“Phase Three of the Baiter Sehat campaign will see us continue to educate the local communities and increase access to health and well-being provisions, and in this way, improve the outcome for the whole community.”

The Council’s Director of Public Health, Dominic Harrison said:   “The Baiter Sehat campaign has encouraged people to consider what they can do to improve their own health. I’m delighted that we are able to continue this partnership with One Voice.”

Baiter Sehat engagement events take place throughout Blackburn and Darwen. A representative of One Voice can be visited at the Your Support Your Choice offices every Wednesday between 1pm and 4.30pm.
