Swimming Development
Swimming is a full body exercise that is non weight bearing. The benefits of regular swimming include: improved health and fitness, body tone and confidence - which can also lead to other activities such as water polo, water skiing, scuba diving, surfing etc. Many people find improvements in their social life too.
School swimming forms a large part of our daytime programme and our commitment to development of school swimming is continuously driven by our ASA and RLSS qualified teachers and the Swimming Development Team. School swimming lessons, together with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's (BwDBC's) Swim Scheme, Blackburn Centurions Amateur Swimming Club, Darwen Amatuer Swimming Club and other aquatic activities will be progressed in a co-ordinated manner through BwDBC's Swimming Scheme.
The swim scheme follows the Amateur Swimming Associations National Plan for Teaching Swimming.
A course of lessons last between 8 - 14 weeks depending on the time of year. Each lesson will last approximately 30 minutes.
The National Plan for Teaching Swimming takes the non-swimmer on a journey, from the first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water!

Throughout the year we run ASA teachers courses where we require children to attend lessons for the candidates to teach. These lessons are free, as the main aim is to give the candidates teaching experience.
