Community Stroke Workshops

Community Stroke Workshops raise awareness of Stroke, TIA signs, FAST message and the need for speed with a stroke. Stroke/TIA pathway in Blackburn with Darwen and managing stroke risk factors.

  • Greenfields Community Centre, Tuesday - 1pm-2.30pm - 30 minutes education session followed by exercise circuit.
  • Darwen Leisure Centre, Wednesday - 12.3pm-2.30pm - Supervised stroke gym
  • Darwen Leisure Centre, Thursday - 10am-11am - Supervised stroke gym
  • Darwen Leisure Centre, Thursday - 12noon-1pm - Life after stroke exercise circuit

  • Creative Rehabilitation Group (for support and social opportunities) - First Wednesday of every month, held at Kingsway, Greenhurst Place, Blackburn. BB2 1NA.
  • Bi weekly coffee morning held on Thursdays at Blakey’s coffee lounge, King George’s Hall, Blackburn, BB2 1AA.

  • 1-1 support for stroke survivors either in their own home (visited by a trained volunteer) or in the community (support with a specific target)
  • Blocks of supported conversation and activity with NT and communication support volunteers (8 weeks with assessment at end of block). Blocks could be repeated should stroke survivor still benefit from them
  • Continuing/ Long term support with monthly creative rehabilitation group.

 

NHS Stroke Rehabilitation Services

  • Specialist Community Stroke Service

Provides a therapy led, stroke rehabilitation services based in peoples own homes and other community settings.

Comprising of specialist occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, rehabilitation nurse and support staff.

The stroke service will treat clients who have suffered a stroke in the last 2 years and consider clients referred from the community with stroke related problems more than 2 years.

Supporting people who are experiencing problems with foot drop following a stroke using Functional Electrical Stimulation.
