Achievements & Annual Reports

Through re:fresh we have been able to offer exercise and leisure activities completely free for people to enjoy and discover a new lease of life and improve their health and wellbeing as well as making new friends.

This has positively contributed to a notable and significant rise in participation from 16.3% to 23.8% of adults participating in 3 x 30 minutes physical activity per week (National indicator 8) in 2010. This is the second highest increase nationally and places Blackburn with Darwen above the North West average and in line with national statistics, a drastic improvement from 2006/7.

re:fresh is a whole population approach which has also demonstrated its effectiveness at engaging those traditionally low participatory groups. By not only offering free leisure, re:fresh targets and supports the community to get involved, especially those that experience the highest levels of health inequalities. As a result improving health and wellbeing for everyone and for those most in need of improving their health and wellbeing.

re:fresh’s achievements has had continued success and the initiative proudly won the 2010 Community Partnership Award for best Sporting Communities, which recognised the importance of partnership working to benefit local communities.

re:fresh has successfully exceeded its local year three performance targets and has also demontrated a positive improvement in health and wellbeing of residents within Blackburn with Darwen.
